After graduating in medicine (MD qualification) in 1982 from the Medical University of Gdansk, Poland, Dr Nowicki specialized in dermatology and venereology. He obtained his specialization and the Ph.D. in 1988. This was followed by a habilitation dissertation “Enzymatic activity of dermatophytes” in 1996 at the Medical University of Gdansk. In 1999, he became specialized in allergology. From 1982 to 2002, Dr Nowicki held the position of Assistant, Senior Assistant, Assistant Professor and Head of Mycology Laboratory in the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology at the Medical University of Gdansk. Since 2003 he was an associate professor and since 2009 he is professor in the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology at the Medical University of Gdansk. Dr Nowicki has received post-graduate training at Fitzwilliam College, the University of Cambridge, Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, United Kingdom as well as Dermatology Department Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich , Germany. He is a member on several national (Polish Dermatology Society, Polish Allergology Society, Forum of Young Researchers in Dermatology, Gdansk Science Society) and international societies (European Academy Dermatology and Venereology, Society for Investigative Dermatology, European Academy of Allergology and the Clinical Immunology, European Society for Dermatological Research, American Academy of Dermatology, International Society for Human and Animal Mycology, European Nail Society and European Confederation for Medical Mycology). Since 2004 Dr Nowicki is a Chairman of the Dermatology Section Polish Allergology Society. He is a member of the editorial board of ”Medical Mycology” and “Allergy, Asthma, Immunology” – medical polish magazines. He has also authored or co-authored over 200 articles in national and international journals and several book chapters. Dr Nowicki’s clinical trial experience has centred on the epidemiology of superficial mycoses and their enzymatic activity and evaluating the efficacy of new therapies in dermatology, medical mycology and allergology.
