Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy
Overview
Our Dermatology Online is committed to the long-term preservation and continued accessibility of its published scholarly content.
The journal maintains an active digital archiving arrangement with the Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library and preservation organisation. Published journal content is deposited and/or preserved through Internet Archive to support continued access to the scholarly record.
Internet Archive
The journal’s published articles are archived through the Internet Archive:
The journal maintains an official Internet Archive account under which published articles are deposited and preserved.
Individual archived items contain bibliographic information identifying the article, its authors, publication details, journal title, and the original article URL on the journal website.
The archived version corresponds to the published version of the article and is made available under the applicable open access and licensing terms.
Scope of Archiving
The journal aims to preserve its published scholarly content, including:
- research articles;
- review articles;
- case reports;
- clinical and educational articles;
- other scholarly content forming part of the journal’s published record.
The preservation process is intended to cover both newly published content and the journal’s existing scholarly archive as resources and technical arrangements permit.
Continuous Archiving
The journal is committed to maintaining an ongoing archiving process rather than relying solely on temporary website backups.
Newly published articles are progressively deposited in the Internet Archive as part of the journal’s digital preservation workflow.
The journal periodically reviews its published content to identify articles that require archiving or verification.
Bibliographic Identification
Archived articles are associated with bibliographic information including, where applicable:
- article title;
- author names;
- journal title;
- publication year;
- volume and issue;
- page range;
- DOI;
- original article URL;
- copyright and licensing information.
This information is intended to facilitate identification and retrieval of the preserved scholarly record.
Website Availability and Backup
The journal’s official website remains the primary source for the current published version of each article.
In addition to external archiving, the journal maintains internal backups of its website and published content as part of its technical continuity and data-loss prevention procedures.
Internal backups are considered a supplementary measure and do not replace external digital preservation.
Preservation in the Event of Journal Discontinuation
The journal recognises that continued access to the scholarly record should not depend solely on the continued operation of the journal website.
In the event of a prolonged interruption or discontinuation of the journal website, the journal’s archived content deposited with Internet Archive is intended to provide an additional source of access to the published scholarly record.
Open Access and Archived Content
The journal is a fully open access publication.
Archived articles remain subject to the copyright and licensing terms applicable to the published version. Articles published under a Creative Commons license remain available for reuse in accordance with the terms of that license.
Preservation and Future Development
The journal will continue to review and strengthen its digital preservation arrangements and may adopt additional recognised long-term preservation services in the future.
Any additional preservation service adopted by the journal will be identified on this page once the service is actively implemented.
Transparency
The journal does not claim participation in preservation services that have not been activated.
The journal will update this policy whenever its digital preservation arrangements change.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure transparency regarding how Our Dermatology Online preserves and maintains access to its published scholarly content.
