Scleredema adultorum of Buschke during pregnancy

A 24 old woman in the 33 week of gestation consulted for a willowish indurated plaque on the left lateral aspect of the abdomen (Fig. 1) that appeared two weeks prior to consultation The past medical history of the patient as well that of the pregnancy were unremarkable.The histological examinationshowed thickening of the dermis with enlarged bundles of collagen separated by clear spaces and increased mucin and thickened collagen in the middle and deep dermis. The WBC were 12000/mm3 with 88% PNN and CRP 8mg mg/L (N<5mg/L). STREPT test to detect a streptococcal infection turned out negative. Scleredema adultorum of Buschke presents clinically with the abrupt appearance of indurated plaques usually on the neck back and more rarely on thighs and is associated with streptococcal infection blood dyscrasias and diabetes mellitus [1] It is very rare in pregnancy. After thorough review of the literature this is the second case of scleredema adultorum of Buschke associated with pregnancy [2].
